Green Coffee Bean Extract Review
Most people can’t get through a day of the week without a nice hot cup of coffee. This quick wake me up drink gets its punch from the caffeine that it contains. However, it may be beneficial as a weight loss supplement.
What is green coffee bean extract?
To make coffee the beans are roasted to produce their flavour and then processed to create that dark cup of coffee. Green coffee bean extract is essentially taken from the un-roasted beans. This extract contains a variety of different compounds including caffeine but it’s the chlorogenic acid that has been shown to have an effect on body weight.
How does chlorogenic acid effect the body?
It all comes down to glucose, most people don’t realize that it’s not just fatty foods that affect our bodyweight, it’s the sugar that is found in our foods thats the main culprit. Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant that also may slow the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal. By having a more slow release our blood glucose levels don’t spike and the insulin response is reduced. (insulin reduces blood glucose leveles) Insulin protects the body against high glucose levels but it also causes the excess glucose to be converted into fat. This is how chlorogenic acid can help increase weight loss.
Does green coffee bean extract really work?
According to a Dr. Oz study, patients taking 400 milligrams three times a day found that those taking the supplement lost two times as much weight as the placebo group. 2 pounds vs 1 pound. Both groups were taking part in the same exercise plan and kept a food journal, watching what they ate.
